General Business

5.1General BusinessSTATEMENT OF PURPOSE The role of the Waterways Advisory Committee is to review development projects, both public and private, that are located adjacent to creeks and waterways for consistency with the goals, policies and regulations for creekside development identified in the Santa Rosa General Plan, Zoning Code, Design Guidelines and Citywide Creek Master Plan. While the Committee does not take formal action on projects, it does provide advisory comments to the decision-making body. All development projects located adjacent to a creek or waterway are required to be reviewed by the WAC prior to proceeding through the entitlement process.

The Waterways Advisory Committee will review development projects near Santa Rosa's creeks and waterways to ensure they comply with city planning rules, and provide advisory recommendations to decision-makers before projects move forward.

The Transportation and Public Works Department is conducting a public outreach campaign to gather resident input on three proposed alternatives for connecting the Prince Memorial Greenway to the future Southeast Greenway, which would complete an east-west multiuse pathway across Santa Rosa. The three alternatives use different combinations of separated bike lanes and neighborhood greenways along routes such as Sonoma Avenue, Doyle Park, and neighborhood streets, with the final preferred route to be selected based on survey feedback by July 31, 2026. The project received federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Thriving Communities Program and is designed to serve people of all ages and abilities, including those with mobility limitations and families with children.
